Cancer is a generic term for a large group of diseases that can affect any part of the body, with an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases being diagnosed in 2020. It has been regarded as a leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for nearly 10 million deaths in 2020.
As teenagers, we have skills that are underutilised due to a lack of experience and qualifications. We’re in the odd position where we can truly help but aren’t offered many openings due to our age. Here’s where TCP or Teens for Cancer Patients comes in.
TCP is a non-profit, started by a teenager, Varshini Vijay, who serves as President of the organisation. It provides opportunities for other teenagers across the globe to lend and utilise their skills to help adolescents affected by cancer. By creating 4 teams, namely Art, Content, Event Management and Research, they create gorgeous cards, write thought-provoking articles, research to help educate and take up several initiatives, the volunteers strive to bring a smile to the faces of millions.
By volunteering, one can form important connections with Stanford and MIT Students, reach a wider audience, boost their college applications, and make an impact on society. They can also get recognised by the American Cancer Society and help create and raise awareness amongst people.
