Dwiti

We have all been given turmeric milk when we have a cold because it makes our immunity better. Food and nutrition play a vital role when it comes to our body and its response to certain ailments. According to the American Cancer Society, smoking and poor dietary habits lead to the six most common types of cancer.

Approximately 35% of Americans can possibly develop cancer in the near future due to the food and other substances they consume. The American cancer society has provided a list of recommendations in order to reduce the risk of cancer-

  1. Everything is to be consumed in moderation and one has to vary their diet every day. Your body should receive all the necessary components of a healthy diet including protein, fat, fibre, carbohydrates, and other essential nutrients.

  2. Consumption of fibre-rich food has been associated with the reduction of the risk of colon cancer.

  3. One should consume different colours of fruit every day. Various bioactive ingredients in the pigment of the fruit help reduce the risk of cancer.

  4. You should provide only 25 to 30 grams of fat to your body. Minimal fat intake is highly advised. However, children should not be put on fat-restricting diets.

  5. Reduction of alcohol consumption has proven to be an extremely effective way to reduce the risk of cancer. Consumption of alcohol is commonly associated with an increased risk of breast cancer, oesophagal cancer, and oropharyngeal cancer. People who drink huge amounts of beer also run the risk of rectal cancer.

  6. Overconsumption of salt- especially in cured, smoked, and nitrite-preserved food has led to incidents of oesophagal and stomach cancer.

  7. The deficiency of vitamin D causes the risk of breast cancer, colon cancer, and pancreatic cancer.

  8. Maintain ideal body weight. Obesity has been known to cause the risk of uterus, gallbladder, kidney, stomach, breast, and colon cancer.

  9. Smoking and passive smoking increase the cause of various types of cancer including lung, laryngeal, oesophagal, oral, pancreatic, bladder, and cervical cancer. Non-smokers (including people who quit) also live longer than smokers.

So, from now on, maintain a balanced and healthy diet and lay off from alcohol and cigarettes. You will significantly reduce the risk of cancer this way. Along with this also try to follow an exercise regime. More research regarding this topic is happening as you read this but until then take care of yourself the best you can by following these simple guidelines.
