Celebrities and Cancer

Parnika

Cancer is a disease in which some of the body's cells grow uncontrollably and spread to other parts of the body. Cancer is not only a serious disease but also a financial burden and mental pain. And for some of the celebrities to fight it so bravely, they deserve an article to be written on, don’t they? Getting further ahead I’ll be discussing stories about celebrities who have/had cancer.

Even for those of us who haven’t had it, Breast cancer feels personal. The first person I’ll be writing about is currently facing this condition.

Shannen Doherty

The Beverly Hills actress who is now 51 was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She bravely posted photos of her emotional head-shaving while undergoing chemotherapy. But in February 2020 it had relapsed as metastatic breast cancer (MBC), which means that it had spread to other parts of the body and was no longer curable. Shannen Doherty opened up about her stage four cancer on ABC’s nightline in February 2020. This clearly was not her first cancer fight, she publicly battled breast cancer in 2015 and announced she was in remission in 2017. She viewed this as an opportunity to prove that she would continue doing work despite the health issues that she was facing. Her bravery and strength in the phase of this cancer battle are already having a huge impact on so many other people. Shannen Doherty is an amazing individual who is fighting cancer. And there are many celebrities like her who are fighting cancer. This brings me to the next celebrity that I’ll be writing about.

Sonali Bendre

Sonali Bendre was shocked when she was diagnosed with metastatic cancer at the age of 46 in 2018. Most cancers are not just because of the lifestyle, some of them are genetic and some of them are viruses. Cancer can be caused due to many reasons, but diagnosing it is hard. When Sonali Bandre discovered that she had cancer she was at the fourth stage and her doctor told her that she had 30 per cent chances of survival but she being an inspirationally strong person overcome this condition. She had to take care of her mental health and she decided to overcome her fear by finding joy in whatever she did, she looked at the positivity around. Sonali Bendre is a living example for the people that convey that cancer is not always death. She has spread positivity and awareness about the disease. She also gave a speech at the national cancer institute where she answered questions related to this disease.

Chadwick Boseman

Chadwick Boseman, who is known for the role ‘Black Panther’ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer in 2016. He fought the battle for four years, which progressed to stage four before his death. We lost this amazing individual on August 28th 2020. In the weeks before his death, Boseman harnessed his A-list status to bring the Black Lives Matter movement to Hollywood. Even though Boseman knew his future was uncertain his social media messages promoted hope saying “155 years later let’s all try to learn from our past so we can create a better future for ourselves. not just today. everyday” In August 2020, he put out his final post where he urged his followers to vote and posted a photo of democratic vice president Kamala Harris. Boseman was not only a superhero on-screen but off-screen as well. His battle with cancer was private, and he managed to do so much for society including his focus on the impact of the coronavirus pandemic on the essential workers. He raised awareness and funds through his friend’s charity, producer Thomas.

Chadwick Boseman’s tragic passing made fans and celebrities pour out sympathies across social media. Hulk actor Mark Ruffalo said Boseman is “one of the all-time greats and his greatness was only beginning”. Captain Marvel, Brie Larsen recalled that Boseman was “someone who radiated power and peace”

Hugh Jackman

Hugh Jackman was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma which is a form of skin cancer in 2013 when his wife asked him to get that mark checked on his nose. Within a year he had three surgeries to get the skin cancer removed from his nose, Hugh Jackman has been diagnosed with this cancer about six times, and ever since he has been asking his followers to wear sunscreen and get themselves regularly. Hugh Jackman is an inspiration to many of his followers. He’s been spreading awareness about this disease. And his fans are hoping for the best for him.

Lisa Ray

Lisa Ray was 37 when she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in the year 2009. Multiple myeloma is a cancer of white blood cells known as plasma cells, which produces antibodies. She went blank when she got to know about this but then she realized that it was her time to heal and face the situation. Lisa fought back and soon after she started writing The Yellow Diaries, which is a blog about her experience with cancer. But she relapsed in 2012 shortly after she got married and she had been in remission ever since. Lisa Ray fought this deadly disease and is currently cancer-free after her stem cell transplant. She is another one of the amazing people who give hope to all the cancer survivors out there.
